Valentine´s Day in Italy: elegant ideas for her & for him!
Valentine´s Day: elegant and romantic ideas

We soon celebrate Valentine´s Day!

In Italy this is an important day, part of our tradition and lifestyle. Chocolate treats and flowers, especially red roses, are the essential elements of this special event... And of course Champagne: from the famous Veuve Clicquot to Moet & Chandon you can´t resist! In Italy we also celebrate Valentine´s Day with a glass of Berlucchi or Ferrari, you must taste them!

When it comes to presents I often suggest very traditional choices:

-classic and romantic flowers AND chocolate treats

-the everlasting sparkling jewellery..

-the everlasting romantic book...

As PhD Literature I am so fond of books, poetry will be perfect on this special event, let´s see some ideas:

-poems by Wislawa Szymborska, Polish poet and essayist, who won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1996;

-William Shakespeare´s sonnets;

-poems by Eugenio Montale, Italian poet who won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1975 (by the way: he was from Genoa, my hometown!)

And how about the famous strips Peanuts by Charles M. Schulz? I love them so much, they still make me laugh and I am still touched by sweet, romantic Charlie Brown by the mail box waiting for valentines to come...

How do you celebrate Valentine´s Day in your country? Do you like poery books as present?

Wish you all a lovely day!

  • Yes poems are a favorite for this holiday! One I like is Letters to a Young Poet (original title, in German: Briefe an einen jungen Dichter) is a collection of ten letters written by Bohemian-Austrian poet Rainer Maria Rilke (1875–1926) to Franz Xaver Kappus (1883–1966), from Wikipedia. - So many ways and reasons to love. Cheers with a glass of Berlucchi!

  • My husband cooked dinner for me this year, this is really different for us as each day every day I always cook whether the family are here or it is just the two of us

  • We celebrated really nicely as a family as we´ve been doing for a long time, ever since we had our daughters. We also send ecards to each other and maybe enjoy special chocolates that we don´t other days. Thanks for sharing these great ideas, Clara!

  • I received chocolates and flowers. I´m a sucker for the traditional! I gave my hubby some coupons he can redeem for a night out at the new casino by our house.
