When it comes to food photography, the visual aspect is fundamental to capture the attention of viewers and clients.

Vintage cutlery, with elaborate and detailed design, can be excellent props and transform a simple dish or ingredient into a photographic work of art,  in a minimal or more elaborate style.

Smart style and space-saving hack: using vintage cutlery as photographic props means being able to choose from a wide range of options to match the style and theme of the photography, avoiding space issues (which a food photographer knows very well!).

We use vintage forks, knives, any kind of spoons and ladles to add a sense of history and authenticity to the images, creating an emotional connection with the past.

If you want to create a sophisticated and refined atmosphere, I recommend classic silver cutlery with inlaid handles or ornamental details.

If, on the other hand, you prefer to communicate a rustic and welcoming atmosphere, more relaxed, I suggest enameled metal or wooden cutlery.

And let’s not forget about storytelling: every food photography is a moment of storytelling! And here, an old fork, maybe even a bit rusty, can suggest a story of a whole family or culinary tradition passed down from generation to generation.

Eco detail: creative food photography can make the food no longer edible, so let’s also pay attention to this aspect if we decide to set up a photographic set with vintage props... Of course, there are sustainable tricks and tips that I will give you to photograph food without giving up on grandma’s vintage spoon!

Are you ready to make your food photography more engaging and interesting? Then let’s all go hunting for old cutlery... And we will also see some interesting places to find them!

Let’s experiment with vintage cutlery and be inspired by their timeless beauty in our next food photography session!
